Paul McCarney is an environmental social scientist, hunter, and conservationist. He has a PhD in environmental studies and his research interests focus on connecting multiple forms of science and knowledge systems around conservation. He has been fortunate to travel, hunt, and fish right across Canada and learn from diverse sets of experiences and knowledge in those travels.
Paul is inspired by the complexity of conservation. Conservation is connected to social and political contexts and we need to understand the complex history of conservation. His goal is to connect diverse people and perspectives to create meaningful dialogue about important conservation issues.
As a hunter and writer, Paul looks to explore all aspects what it means to be a conservationist. I am interested in conservation that bridges disciplines, boundaries, and personal identities. I believe that hunters must engage with ethical questions and be positive, inclusive, and collaborative members of a hunting community.
